Smartphone video and editing workshop

Learning to film, organise and edit simple videos directly on a phone.

Activity images — Smartphone video and editing workshop
This workshop aims to teach children and young people how to produce a good-quality video using a smartphone, and then organise and edit their footage in a simple and structured way.
The process begins with thinking about the film’s idea.
Participants learn to answer several essential questions: What message do they want to communicate? Who is the video intended for? What images and shots do they need to tell their story?
They then discover the basics of filming with a smartphone.
They learn how to stabilise the device, choose between horizontal and vertical formats depending on where the video will be published, use natural light and pay attention to sound quality.
They also practise using different shot sizes and camera angles.
The workshop introduces wide shots, medium shots, close-ups, camera movements and the logical sequencing of images.
After filming, participants discover the basics of editing directly on a smartphone.
They learn how to trim a clip, remove unnecessary parts, organise shots, create continuity, adjust the sound, add suitable music, insert a title and export the video in the correct format.
The emphasis is placed on clear storytelling rather than using too many visual effects.
The workshop also covers digital safety, image rights and privacy protection.
Children learn not to film or publish images of a person without their permission and not to share sensitive personal information.
The final project may take the form of a short report, a story, an interview or a presentation video.
The objective is not only technical.
It is also about learning to work as a team, divide roles, develop an idea and transform it into a complete video.
