Sewing workshops

Learning, repairing, creating and sharing know-how around fabric and sewing machines.

Images de l’activité — Sewing workshops
The sewing workshops offer a practical, creative and welcoming space where participants can learn how to use a sewing machine and complete simple and useful projects.
The activity welcomes participants of different skill levels.
It is intended both for beginners who have never used a sewing machine and for people who already have some experience and wish to improve their skills or complete a personal project.
The sessions begin with an introduction to the different parts of the sewing machine.
Participants learn how to thread the machine, use the foot pedal, adjust the stitches, handle fabric and follow safety rules.
They can then learn how to take measurements, cut fabric, assemble pieces, sew a straight seam, repair clothing, attach a button, shorten trousers or make simple objects.
Projects may include fabric bags, cushions, covers, accessories or small useful everyday items.
The workshop is not solely focused on learning a technical skill.
It also creates a social space where participants can talk, exchange advice, share experiences and support one another.
Sewing therefore becomes a way to overcome isolation and build relationships between people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures.
The workshop can also raise awareness about reuse and waste reduction.
Old clothes can be repaired, transformed or reused, while leftover pieces of fabric can be used to create new objects.
Some participants may also discover a skill or talent that they can later develop through training, a personal project or a professional activity.
Learning is based on practice, patience, mutual support and respect for each participant’s individual pace.
